How Salik Works

Understanding Dubai's advanced electronic toll collection system

RFID Technology

Salik uses Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology to automatically deduct toll fees as vehicles pass through toll gates. The system consists of a tag attached to the vehicle's windshield and readers installed at each toll gate.

When a vehicle passes through a toll gate, the reader detects the tag and automatically deducts the appropriate fee from the pre-paid account. This process happens in milliseconds, allowing for seamless travel without stopping.
